Curriculum

Groups

Age 3

The Three year old program focuses on social interactions with others, self help skills, language and communication, and the development of motor skills

Age 4

The four year old program focuses on a variety of areas.  Children learn through active exploration.  We work on skill development through literacy, math, science, social skills, fine and gross motor skills, art exploration, music and movement.

Age 5

The five year old program continues to build on skill development with an emphasis on pre-Kindergarten readiness skills.  Individual attention is given to each child to assist in growing at their own rate.

The Whole Child

While most activities span the social, emotional, intellectual and physical spectrums, some things are used to focus on one aspect of child development.

Social / Emotional

Children participate cooperatively in negotiating jobs and cost in the Dramatic Play Center.

Intellectual

Children engage in a variety of activities which promote Math and Science concepts.  Many classification skills can be seen here as the students sort by color, size and shape.

Physical

Westwood Nursery School provides a variety of indoor and outdoor activities, which assist in developing Gross Motor Skills.

Special Events

Pumpernickel Puppets, New England Aquarium Tide Pool, and Drumlin Farms have all visited and taught students at Westwood Nursery School.    We also get students out to neighboring educational sites such as the the Westwood Fire Station, and Sally's Farm in Dover.
